March 14, 2019
Please remember that there was a change in the school calendar. There will be NO CLASSES TOMORROW. The teachers will be participating in a day of retreat. There will be classes next FRIDAY, March 22.
On Saturday morning at 10:00 eight students in grades 4-8 will receive sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. We congratulate these students and their families on this happy occasion when they receive the Lord's forgiveness and mercy.
The season of Lent has begun. We are asked to focus on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. I was quite surprised last Friday with the number of students who brought in money from their Lenten boxes and send it each Friday during Lent. On Friday, April 12, they are to bring the box itself, since that will be the last day of Lent before students begin vacation.
The St. Patrick's Day parade will start noon on Saturday. OLG's Big Shoulders Fund Gallagher scholars, along with Gallagher scholars from other schools, parents, grandparents, friends etc. will be marching in the parade. Other students who are Big Shoulder Fund scholars are encouraged to participate as well. Participants need to arrive by 12:45. The Big Shoulders Fund group (#65) will start by flag pole #4 in the very center of Columbus Drive.
The spring fundraiser will come to an end next Wednesday. Please return your order forms for popcorn and the money by next Wednesday. Hopefully, everyone is working toward making this a successful fundraiser.
Spring pictures will be taken on Thursday. If you wish to have a picture of your children attending OLG taken together, please return the form you received last week by Wednesday.
There are two dress down days scheduled for next week. On Monday, students may dress down if they pay $1. The money collected goes to tuition assistance. Tuesday is the feat of St. Joseph. The student council is sponsoring a dress down. Students who wish to participate must pay $1 and come dressed in red-colored clothing.
In Sunday's Gospel, Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up to a mountain to pray. while Jesus is praying, the others fall asleep. Later they wake up to see a glorified Jesus, all shining and white, and Elijah disappears into a cloud, leaving Jesus standing alone. The voice of God speaks from the cloud, "This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to Him."
The Apostles have come to know Jesus very well as they have traveled about the countryside with Him. However, they never have known Jesus like this. Jesus promises His followers that they, too, will be glorified someday, but first they must take up His cross.
COME TO MASS ON SUNDAY AND LET YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF JESUS DEVELOP.
